Dr. Meghann Pytka is an Instructional Specialist in the Division of Engineering Education at Washington University in St. Louis’s McKelvey School of Engineering. She holds a PhD in History from Northwestern University and brings an interdisciplinary background in qualitative research, systems thinking, ethics, pedagogy, and faculty development to engineering education.

Her work focuses on improving teaching and learning in engineering through evidence-based course design, instructional technology, and professional development for faculty and teaching assistants. She develops programming related to generative AI, accessible and effective teaching, engineering ethics, and instructional practice. Her current interests include how engineering educators can integrate generative AI while preserving student reasoning, disciplinary judgment, and meaningful learning; how instructors can foster students’ intrinsic motivation and create consequential experiential learning; how institutions prepare instructors and teaching assistants for rapidly changing educational technologies; and how systems thinking and ethical analysis can help engineers examine the human consequences of technical decisions.
